Subject: fsj: guess what I found...

A good friend of mine totalled his 85 Vette this morning... (he's ok)
350 cu in, multipoint fuel injection 375 hp, 6 speed automatic.... 25mpg...

We figure the insurance company will ask about $1,500 for him to buy it
back... if they do, I'm first in line to buy it from him... (someone pulled
out in front of him on the highway (9) and stopped... he had no where to
go, locked
'em up (he was doing 40 in a 45) and said he watched parts fly all over the
place... the state police ticketed the other guy...)

I'm thinking of wow... this is a silk smooth and efficient powerhouse
that will fit nicely in my 83 Stepside, my 88 wagoneer limited or Fritz,
my 81 300d... (not to mention that it'd also fit in my son's 67 J3000, like
I'm gonna turn a teenager loose with a Vette motor powered FSJ... :) besides,
he doesn't have any money... and his 327 is running good. :)

Anyways... What should I do? :)
	a) walk away from the excitement and save money and time
	b) turn Fritz into a silky smooth sleeper and improve his fuel economy
	c) pep up the little wagoneer a bit
	d) make my Stepside a serious system
or ????

Technical concerns: transfer case that'll use the Vette 6 speed?
(satellite?)
will the Benz rear axle take the stress?
			will my wife drive it?
will these temptations never cease? :)

While for the most part I lead a somewhat boring and tame life, it does
have it's moments... :) (Mostly in going through the paper design of
crazy ideas like this... I've done a couple hare brained ideas like this
before, made them work and then moved onto another one... as I get older
and wiser I tend to figure them out and talk about 'em... it's safer, cheaper
and just as educational. :)

Seriously, does anyone know much about that tranny? Will it mate to any
GM xfr cases? NPXXX?? This would be a nice motor for my Stepside... and since
it's not actively being driven it's a perfect candidate... Would be a really
sweet setup too... I suppose I could sell that 6 speed tranny and setup
a 700R4 (or more current version) with an NP242 for full time FULL size fun.

Reality is this though... I've been trying to find time (and motivation) to
go out in the cold, damp, dark, dirty, dingy dirt floored carport to wire
up the tach and stereo to take it back and retest the emissions... :) It
hasn't moved from it's resting spot for over a week... (ok, I don't NEED
the stereo hooked up and it is running... but hey, I've got a used Kenwood
to install first... want to do it right... :)

I guess I should offer this opportunity up to someone else more deserving...
I need concrete and a closed in shop more than I need a Vette powered
anything. :)

Now, if the insurance company says he can buy it back for less than a grand
I'm soon to be a grand poorer... :) A fuel injected V8 is way too tempting
for the likes of me... 'specially when it comes with the wiring harness... :)

Someone pray for me, ok... ;) (anyone got a current tally of ongoing
projects?
someone needs to come over here and help me prioritize a few things... :)

Speaking of which, anyone up to getting together over the holiday break for
a Latte and a tour of the Classic Car store in Snohomish? Kind of a Jeep/Benz
whatever Fest? It'll give me motivation to get my Stepside out of the
carport... :)

thinking as I review this note... that engine would be awesome in the Benz...
I'm sure the 123 Chassis could handle the power... man would that be
awesome...
5.7L of highly tuned engine... I'd leave the 300D emblem in the rear too...
with the word DIESEL still on the trunk lid... (I had a sticker on the back
of my 3.8L Chevy Luv that read: I may be slow, but I'm ahead of you :)
Funny thing is no one ever passed me...

ttyl,
john

what, you having trouble with "better ideas"? :)

I really liked the fords I've owned... but found that they
kept changing stuff... gm seems to have done a better job
of standardizing... and they also seem more efficient...

375hp Stepside? 375hp 300D?
(I have eliminated the little wagoneer from the thought process... :)

I'm leaning heavily toward the stepside...

back non-tilt plain jane) to give away!

I found a set of leather seats for my J20 but after putting them in, the

Even if I take the headrests off, it doesn't help.

There is some FSJ history here. Harrah's bought Harolds and will be
expanding where Harold's used to stand. Bill Harrah (long deceased) was
responsible for the Jerrari. He also amassed the largest car collection i=

the world. Totally over 1500 if I remember correctly. Only ~250 from the
original collection are left today and they are in the National Automobil=

I was lucky enough to see the whole collection many times while I
was growing-up. It was located here in Sparks (sister city) in three
huge warehouses.

A: The driver said the Jerrari was in Harrahs, which was right next to
Harold's, and that the last Wagoneer was in the museum. All I saw was a
bit of red as we went by. I didn't go in to see it.
