I have been looking for 12" x 2" drums (no longer manufactured)for my '73 J-4600. I just made contact with a guy named Mike Monahan who suggested converting to 11" x 2" drums. I had tried this previously without luck. His suggestion was: >Jamie, try and find a Jeep pickup that has a Dana 53 the backing plates have the correct pattern, the only thing to watch for is that they are "Bendix" style brakes (non eccentric adjusted). They have 11" drums.> Can anyone tell me how to ID a "Dana 53" by "eyeballing" without crawling underneath for a closer look? I've been up to Red Rock Canyon, about ten miles west of Las Vegas, many times. It's a National Conservation Area, and there's plenty of public access; roads run through it from one end to the other. In the Wilderness Areas, though, I think they don't want any roads. ++ Cornel Ormsby ++ we don't need no steenkin' roads ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2000 20:32:17 -0800 From: john Subject: fsj: np229 gone... :( I got outbid in the last 9 minutes... my wife keeps stealing my computer and I couldn't get my bid in... but that's ok. James forwarded this to me... very cool... fwiw, my pastor has a very nice Dodge PU with the Cummins TD, 35" tires, and so on... he doesn't usually do weddings though... Now there is time for one of the other pastors to acquire a Jeep before the wedding... :) I have a J10, and have done some photography... (was the backup photographer for my sister in law's wedding... allowed me to have fun and not worry about the group shots and stuff, got some great shots) I also know of a friend with an xj Jeep that does wedding photography... he used to shoot for Glamour/vogue, etc... he ain't cheap though... although he might have fun with this one and do it for less... :) Where is Saguaro Lake??? If it ain't in Washington State, disregard this last transmission, I was under the influence of a J10... ;) john From: "Len Sullivan" Reply-To: 1FSJ-at-onelist.com Subject: Re: [1FSJ] .............and the wedding Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit From: "Len Sullivan" We've set a date: May 13th Yes, that's right - we'll have our wedding anniversery on Friday the 13th eventually. Always wanted to do that............hee hee We're going to look at some potential locations this weekend at Saguaro Lake.....now all we have to do is find a Jeepin' preacher. We're going to set it up so that we are standing in the back of the J-10 with the preacher either on the tailgate or in the back of his own Jeep. Not sure yet whether we'll "pose" the Jeeps on some big rocks or do it at the top of a mountain.......probably both. As I type this we're both sitting here laughing at the thought of the truck decorated with 'Just Married' stuff careening along the trail............... I'll ask my wife what she would think of it... however, after 25 years, I think I already know the answer to that question.... rofl... However, regardless of what SHE (either one, that is, yours or mine) thinks, I think it's pretty cool, very memorable and could be romantic if done properly. Best to you! He seemed happy if my feeble memory serves me correctly. (I need to put a search engine on my digest archive... mental note for Perl script... ;) I did the math of what it would take to go through and restore a Wagoneer. The numbers come up pretty close (within 25 to 30%) to what wagonmaster charges... The effort involved in getting a Wagoneer to that state is not inconsequential. I've gone through 3 or 4 wags and spent 25 to 50% of what he charges, but my rigs didn't come close to the look of his. A simple engine overhaul can easily run $2 to $3K, $4 if you do it at the dealer! A paintjob almost 2k... it adds up real fast... Not to mention finding the parts and a wrench to do it. So, based on hearsay, qualified as it may be, and a preliminary analysis of cost in restoring one of these rigs, I'd say that you probably will be fine. To get a nice, clean, solid rig already setup and working fine is worth a lot of money. I just spent 2 weeks waiting for one of my Jeeps to get out of a shop, and spent $800!!! and it still ain't as good as I wanted it to be. If I had the bucks I'd probably give some thought to buying one of those rigs. Having all the stuff done can be a major headache... ask any of us with rigs in process... ;) Sure you can build your own cheaper... but somehow it never turns out quite the same. :) john - ----------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com http://www.wagoneers.com http://wagoneers.com/83stepside/ (Superdawg) http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/Jx000s/marks-67-J3000/ (son's FSJ) http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html http://www.wagoneers.com/book-info.html Snohomish, WA, where Jeeps don't rust, they mold... - ----------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #752 *************************
