I finally got around to replacing my driver's side seat belt on the Judge. The side that bolts to the trans tunnel? The plastic surround holding the release button in had cracked and I had it Scotch taped together... I'm sure I'd have gone through the windshield if I'd ever hit anything :) Anyway, just some info: the service replacement part for this is not quite the same as the original. It's the right shape, length and color, the captive mounting bolt is the same size, but the latch is slightly different. The female end that takes the driver's side shoulder belt works fine and accepts the old style male latch, but the male latch for the front center seat is a slightly different shape and will not fit into the old AMC receptacle, so you essentially have to replace these in pairs. Basically, this is the part they started using in Grand Cheros in '91. Luckily, I never use the front center seat (does anyone?) so I can replace the other side at my leisure, but be warned if you have to do this: these cost $110 each (and that's with the discount!) It's a 258, auto, power everything. The body is very good with new root beer paint (fair job). It runs ok, clearly needs alot of tlc to really live with. The power accessories: windows work fine, locks about half the time, mirrors don't (yet), A/C compressor clutch works but the blower doesn't (yet), gas gauge doesn't work. Other warts: an exhaust leak that is semi loud and obnoxious, headliner fabric fell off the ounting board (it's removed but there), no interior door skins (well, one, but it's interior paneling with shellaced deer pictures on it), clock is missing, Chrome spoke rims have some rust. Tires are good (though small). I pulled out the carpet due to the general appearance and smell. I have a spare 258 if that's what it takes to complete the deal. According to the various fsj web pages there were only 6k and change total j trucks in 82, don't know how many might be sportsides, probably darn few (1k?) and the sportside was only offered for 3-4 years => maybe 5k total production(?) I'm in New Mexico and should have jpgs available soon (should already have them but some friends are not as reliable as others), hopefully Monday or Tuesday. THe venting of the hood is a mixed bag. The problem in doing that is you have more resistance of air flow through the radiator... on the other hand you break the vacuum created and reduce some drag that way. It also permits a more laminar air flow over the windshield ... that may or may not help fuel efficiency... and yes it will help you run cooler. :) john ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com **** http://wagoneers.com don't leave life without Jesus, please... I don't presume to speak for Joe but he and I had brief conversation on this topic. He indicated that his interest in the project was limited to allowing the use of the photo of his truck that can be found on the IFSJA site. I've seen that truck. It's fairly well preserved, but is a far cry from a glamour truck and no longer wears the original paint job - although some shows through in places.
