On my trip last weekend home from the Black Rock desert I broke 20mpg on the leg between Lakeview and Grants Pass! This is a 5000lb Bronco with two people and LOTS of gear, 35" tires, 5" lift, no top (I tend to pick up 1mpg with the top ON), and 3.50:1 diffs, 4 speed manual trans (no OD). It isn't a race car, but it has enough power for me! > my wife wouldn't dare go near the carport... except to throw stuff > she doesn't want in there... ;) Hey, thats exactly what my wife does with our garage! She just opens the door and throws! - -brad ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 May 2000 20:33:00 -0500 From: JeepNut Subject: Re: fsj: another crazy idea from snohomish Sounds like a great idea to me John. I don't find trips to the parts store especially rewarding anyway, but especially where Jeep parts are concerned. I LOVE online shopping. Has saved me time, gas, and aggrivation so far. I think it's a great idea. as an example for those interested.... Went to AutoZone the other nite. Our local one. They only HAVE parts for Ford and Chevy, but they have a lookup service so they can find out just which of the stores down in Memphis you have to go to get the occasional Jeep part that crossmatches something they carry... So BillyBob tells me they have the Sway Bar Bushings for 1" bar, at the Millington store. Let's be sure they have 'em, we'll call. (the Zoners really do "try" most of the time, they just don't have alot of Jeep parts). He tries to call for 15 minutes while we shoot the poop, and finally I tell him to forget it, they must be busy, blah, blah, but he started joking about they have 6 lines and he kNOWs they're not that busy... sooo Off I go to Millington... Got there 9:35 (close at 10) and the guy finally comes out of the back to the counter... oh and by the way, not another soul in the store but me... (and 6 lines ringing busy ) I told him that Covington sent me down there to check-up on them and see if they were getting robbed or something, cause all their phones were ringing busy for half an hour. He got all red faced and blubbered something but clearly was not amused. (oh well, neither was I in fact) so he pulls up the part off the ticket and hands me out a box. Now as soon as I picked it up I said, Son, that ain' raht. Looked at the box, it says Control Arm. I told him to open it up because that wasn't right. Too heavy. He looks at me like I'm crazy and starts blubbering something about the numbers, picks up the box, looks at the numbers, verifies that the display on the computer monitor isn't changing numbers on him or anything.... And again I tell him, open it and look man, there ain't no sway bar bushings in that box. I drove down here from Covington cause you guys got your phone lines all locked up so you can do your paperwork and that's all just fine, I drove down here, but I'm not taking that box outta here without opening it. So he opens it up and out pops a pitman arm. I told him they need to fix their database and the phones. Apparently those little pieces of rubber are just too esoteric for AutoZone. Now I apparently have to order a couple of poly ones from somewhere, but the shipping will be more than the stupid bushings... But I just almost refuse to spend money locally when I can help it. I somehow seems so masochistic to contribute to the stupidity while suffering from it.... JeepNut john wrote: > I'm giving some thought to selling used and new > parts via my website.
