I shouldn't start projects like this after 10pm... I need a cup o' coffee... ;) I replaced the egr tube on my 258 last night... turns out the NEW one from the dealer had to be bent as well. Sheesh, could have saved myself $25... I was not happy to follow "gorilla grip" jimmy b... if he ever heads toward you with that Vise Grip he carries everywhere... run, run fast... ;) He claims his arm is weak... it's just a ploy I tell ya. At first I thought the old egr pipe had cross threaded. Then, after I got the 4 foot section of pipe to put over my adjustable metric... Superdawg is back from the frontend doctor... no problems, simple alignment and tire pressure... he's resting comfortably in the dawghaus... :) Got the timing dialed in, I think. :) Gonna go and get some gas for the lawnmower and top off his tank. Gonna look at the benz tonight or tomorrow... the little wagoneer is making more strange noises... not sure what to do with it yet. I'm tired of it. I don't know if I want to go through the expense and hassle of rebuilding everything or not. Hard to decide. It has served us well. If I retire it as a family vehicle I can just use it for wheeling, which would be great... but we'll see... :) Ultimately I'd like to replace it with a Grand Cherokee, 4.0L and Quadradrive. :) Guess will have to wait for a few years to afford the WJ model. The Zj's are now becoming popular for folks, but I really don't like them. In the meantime I think the 85 300D Turbo Diesel will make an acceptable family vehicle for awhile. First thing I noticed is the vacuum distributor is in the rear of this one, mine is in the front. What I think happened is the DSPreO replaced the second CTO with a vacuum distrib. It gets better. The EGR valve on mine is aiming the wrong way and, is hooked to the vacuum canister. Not the charcoal canister but, the black coffee can. My question: As the one I just got is in such good shape and, as the one on my Wag is so messed up, a swap is in order, yes? And, if so, what else should a non-mechanic dummy like me do while I have the manifold off? Oil passage ways? I dunno, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Or was it torker?) with EGR ports and put it on, and flog the cast iron boat anchor (you'd probably get $40 for it on Ebay) You can't do the oil passage on a running engine, w/o taking a chance on destroying the mains. That's for rebuild time (at least I wouldn't!) and just good oil in the mean time with lots of changes. (Blackie got it's first quart of oil since I overhauled the carb a couple months ago. All that went out the valve cover too I bet! Still not bad for 140,000 miles!) If you have access to a cam, or diagram, tell us what you want to hook up, and one or another of us will tell you how or where to put a bypass. Your 360 is near peak torque in the 1,600 to 1,700 range, the torker is something like 3,500 rpm and up... NOT what you want.
