The new technology, which allows direct and almost instantaneous communication between a central monitoring station and remote assets such as cars, power lines, and vending machines, was developed by SatSmart Ltd., a start-up at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology business incubator company. The system includes a compact unit that creates a global, two-way communication pipeline independent of the Internet and other phone lines currently used with standard satellite- based monitoring systems. The system does not even require the owner to report the theft, which avoids delays. The system could also be used to monitor pipelines in remote locations, far-flung cargo, vending machines, and power lines. "With organizations operating globally, with branches and equipment spread out over continents, there's a growing need for instantaneous, low cost monitoring," says Zvi David, SatSmart chief executive officer. The signals travel from an installed modem to one of the low-orbit satellite communication providers, which then relays it to the intended recipient modem. The Smart 2000 unit, which according to SatSmart costs less than existing satellite modems. By JIM KLING (UPI) Copyright 2000 by United Press International and Heavy Sci. Actually, seeing Dan's new Rancho lift was a big influence on me buying mine as well. There's been a bunch of changes to the Cherokee in those short 3 years besides the lift too....MPI, hydroboost, etc. BTW, you can't drive through the entire length of camino cielo anymore. A big rainstorm 2 years ago caused an impassable slide just after the point where you took the picture called "big grin". Got issue number two here in Snohomish!!! Awesome! Mike, you did a great job of condensing NINE pages of my FSJ wiring 101 article down to two pages. It looks great! I will be able to gauge volume for the follow on parts. :) I'll put Biff and Billy Bob Joe on a verbal diet... ;) FWIW, I noticed that the printer cut off part of the sentence in transition between page 9 and 10... The sentence went, "find the concepts of electricity so.... " and then picks up "it out. " Not sure what preceded "it out." :) But the other sentence went, "that (they) find the concepts of electricity so SIMPLE... :) I'd have to read my original again to find the missing part. I've got two versions of the original in all their verbose glory at http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/tech/Wiring/ Magic Circle diagrams included. :) Mike's editing job was superb! Thanx! NOW, the QUESTION is, will Biff and Billy Bob make it home ok??? What will happen to the 66 Waggy? Inquiring minds want to know... (me too... ;) Great illustration too Mike! So FSJ magazine doubled it's subscription rate after ONE issue!? Congrats! As the guy that played Captian Kirk would say, "this is gonna be big,... really big"... ;) Mark Speece's commentary on the FSJ-Fatal Attraction is great! :) I have NO problem finding my FSJ in any parking lot... But he doesn't answer the real question... WHAT IS IT ABOUT THESE THINGS that make us love them so??? I've had 11 of 'em... I keep coming back... I'm very, very happy with my 83 J10 Stepside. I've finally found the right mix of FSJ, looks (although my entire family hates it... even my FSJ owning son!), fuel economy (mine has the 258 and gets a few tenths better mileage than my XJ, 16.4mpg!), and overall functionality! Sure is a shame that Mac rolled his J10... :( Too bad it didn't stop on it's top so we'd have a picture for the "GoneTurtle" section on wagoneers.com :) If you guys haven't subscribed yet, you're missing out on some great FSJ info. And no, you can't borrow my copies. They live in their mailing envelope locked up in a safe place! :) These are obviously going to become highly valued collectors items. Hmm... maybe I should have two subscriptions... rofl... Hey, wasn't the last Wagoneer, pictured on page 3, really the fourth of four 1992's? :) Four Wheeler wrote an article on this and I'm pretty sure that was what happened. I've also heard similar rumors of post-production issues of J20's. There is supposedly around 80 or so made the year after the end of production! Since all were supposedly in the NorthEast somewhere it's possible that the Motor Vehicle department in that (or those) states licensed them differently... who knows for sure... after all, these are Jeeps. :) Many mysteries to research in issues to come. john meister ---- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- john-at-wagoneers.com **** http://wagoneers.com don't leave life without Jesus, please...
