I even had a few compliments on it at gas stations and places where we stopped to let the kids take a break. The more I look at the thing, the less work I really see. After driving it around for the last few days, the majority of the work to be done is simple cosmetics and replacement of lost/broken/worn-out interior parts. I messed with the tailgate a little bit on Sunday and got pretty much nowhere. As it turned out, the window regulator WAS there and stuck in the down position. I just saw the how-to guide that Michael Baxter wrote on troubleshooting the tailgate window. It sounds like a whole lot of not fun and a good way to destroy next weekend in the driveway. Surprisingly enough, the rear window channel wasn't rusted out but the cushion was completely gone. I already ordered another one. I also ordered a complete set of window wipes for the entire truck. I should probably order the felt track liners too since a couple of the windows are kind of slow coming up. Next...I have to fix the cruise control. The parts are all there and so is the brain, but it isn't working. I bought a new brain off eBay for $25. I guess I need to start tracing vacuum lines out to see where the disconnect is. I'll sure be pissed if it turns out to be something as stupid as a 50-cent piece of vacuum line that is broken or missing. As a side note, I checked all the fuses and none of them looked bad. I didn't bother checking the circuit breakers for the tailgate window, but that will be on the agenda for this coming weekend. I am also going to install a marine gang terminal strip on the firewall just under the passenger side of the dash. I'll run the hot wire for it straight to the battery. Why you may ask? I have an 800-watt inverter that has to be connected straight to the battery. This thing is almost an essential item for me when I am traveling with kids. This part of FSJdom is new to me. I have always just tried to keep the things running...never a complete restoration to full glory. If I needlessly bought a new brain, that just means I have a spare...right? LOL Already considered the dual batteries and the answer is a yes. That is just another item on the ever-growing TO DO list. As for the tailgate...I knew it was going to be a problem when I got the truck. I was fully prepared to find the glass held in place with wood under the glass. The PO told me the regulator was gone, but when I took the thing apart, it turned out that it was all there. The only missing part that I can see is the rear wiper motor and arm. The wiring seems to be intact inside of the tailgate and everything looks like it is hooked up correctly. I bet the paddle switch is shot. (Anyone have a source for these or a quick how-to-fix guide?) The DSPO probably thought that was the window motor! 7 out of 10 times a slap on the upper left corner (drivers side) will engage the safety switch to work at least temporarily. You can run wire from the battery to the tailgate (I have extension cables hooked up to a box under my hood but they have 12vdc V shaped prongs) I too like the simplicity of Jtruck tailgates as I have 4. I have a shortbox for sale with tailgate and tail lights (or frame if someone moves fast) for $200. It gets cut up this week and it's already on my trailer. The cab roof is cut off and the front clip is gone already. > Date: Tue, 6 Sep 2011 21:42:12 -0500 > Subject: Re: fsj: Drove it home > From: arklatexgeo-at-gmail.com > To: timesawastin-at-bigpond.com; fsj-at-digest.net > > Very cool!
