I've never been a very good spider assassin, don't like making big spots on ceilings and such... so it dropped down and must have scurried under the passenger seat... uh oh... the fool... it should have run out the door with the spouse... searched high and low, low and high, seat forward, seat back... couldn't find it... standing there along the side of the highway... cars zinging by... flashlight searching for 8 tiny legs... to no avail... convinced said passenger that the spider wouldn't bother us... passenger reluctantly returned to seat... we continued to our destination... ...all the way to our destination said passenger was shining a flashlight all over around the floor... with the map light on... never ending search pattern for an arachnid... shoes off, stocking feet on the dash... sweatshirt hood up... no success... now remember, this is the spouse who digs in the garden, beheads slugs (is that possible?) and tosses snakes to the side as though they were weeds... squishes bugs on roses and greens... orders the execution of cute little bunny rabbits who dare dine on her delicacies... disposes of rodent remains left by our resident feline friend... and didn't even wince (or gag) while changing diapers on two kids... but is now sitting there both feet high on the dash, flashlight swinging wildly below the seat... the terror threat level clearly at it's highest level... so, we get where we're going... poof... passenger side evacuated before parking brake set, well, almost completely evacuated... I'm sure our eight-legged stowaway is still stowed away... laughing with all eight legs twitching away... so I search more, can't find a thing... figured that poor, foolish spider crawled deep under something... maybe up the vent, maybe under the cushion... couldn't see hide nor hair nor even a skinny spider leg... so after our errand we get back in the vehicle... yep, spouse's shoes are again off, stocking feet high on the dash... clutching the pants legs tightly so nothing can crawl up those stocking covered feet... sweatshirt hood up... tied tight... there isn't enough skin exposed at this point for a skinny mosquito to take a bite... (but ... I hid the flashlight :)... so now what does said spouse do? (no flashlight) beats on the seat like a drum... requested in-a-gada-da-vida... my simple request remained unfulfilled and met with an interesting facial expression... if hands weren't busy clutching pant legs tightly and drumming I think I may have gotten swatted... driving along, kind of enjoying the rhythm... not exactly melodic or consistent, but still better than silence, or shreiks, or veiled threats of potential retribution for daring to allow a spider in the vehicle... ...and then all of a sudden I feel something on my bare left arm... reach over with my right hand, automatic sweeping motion rolls it off and to the right... oops... said spouse is to the right... bad move, didn't say much, but she knew... of course she knew, her sensory perception is on overload... once again scolded for not applying enough pressure... not really sure if it survived my action or not... but without spider guts on my hand or on my arm, I'm guilty of failing to eliminate the threat... ...I'm really bad at killing bugs and spiders... never apply enough pressure... I don't like making really big spots on walls and ceilings... in part because I usually can't reach that high... and of course I also don't think I applied enough pressure to terminate this particular spider's futile existence... I could feel it ball up in my hand and drop off to the side... yep, to the side... that side... that said... said passenger was ready to disembark at highway speeds, again, but sense over came fear and passenger remained seated until the end of the ride... well, seated is a somewhat relative term... the passenger was near, or over the seat... I was keeping the vehicle on the highway headed for the driveway so I can't verify what or where the contents of the passenger seat were... soon as the vehicle stopped forward movement that door was open and passenger gone. I looked for the spider, or whatever it was that crawled onto my arm... really... cleaned out the car a bit... searched high and low... and I know, that come daylight and tomorrows errands, that will likely be going in a different vehicle... :) I wonder if a shot of parts cleaner would be enough to kill a spider... and what exactly is a "wolf spider"? we don't have poisonous spiders here, well, other than brown recluse, but they are somewhat reclusive so they're not seen very often, and likely not in a vehicle... I hear they don't go out much... ;) wait for it... yes, they're kind of reclusive... :) is there such a thing as spider bait? spider call? I offered to put the cat in the car overnight, but that didn't go over too well either... :) I was accused of leaving the windows open in the driveway... I didn't, really... maybe I can find another spider about the same size, kill it and bring the remains as proof that all is ok... kind of like what the cat does when he brings a rodent up to us... while that might calm my passenger it is certain that such deception would result in the reapparance of the same spider and I'd really be in trouble... yes, honesty is the best policy when dealing with spiders and spouses... ah yes, isn't fall a wonderful time of year? john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -o|||||o- fahrvergnugen y'all Snohomish, Washington - where Jeeps and VWs don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://JohnMeister.com HTTP://WAGONEERS.COM http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Sep 2011 13:12:28 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: fsj: 1948 CJ-2A on ebay just listed on ebay the 1948 CJ-2A my son rescued from an Arizona wrecking yard and then, with the help of several friends and mechanics, put back into working condition with OEM parts, and sold in 2007: listed on ebay: Willys - 160654032380 the current owner is in Index, WA - he had the brakes completely gone through, paid almost $1800. the jeep is garage kept and rarely used... he's decided to sell it... he's had fun with it in parades and with his grandkids. there should be absolutely no mechanical problems with this jeep, no rust and as complete as possible with OEM parts. I made good friends with the folks at Willys Overland in Toledo putting this thing back together. also found a number of rare accessories that go with it. I'd buy up any Willys I could find and use whatever parts I needed and then find a new home for the remains... it was given an inexpensive paint job to preserve it... I don't do bodywork or paint and didn't want it to be left exposed... chose stone white to match the '99 WJ I had at the time... my plan was to keep it... economics forced a different decision... had I known then I would have chosen one of the stock colors for it... but that's easily rectified by the new owner if desired. :) opening the bid at $5999.99... no idea of actual value, no reserve price... sharing this with you because you might be interested or know someone who might be... feel free to forward this info. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160654032380 http://wagoneers.com/Willys/1948-CJ-2A-2011/all.html Be happy to put you in touch with the current owner... he's got some fascinating stories from his flying days... most notable was having to bail out of an F-8 and into Crater Lake in Aug. 26, 1961... http://wagoneers.com/Willys/48-CJ-2A/Boardman.txt There are times when I wish I had a large garage with many bays... because this Willys would be in one of them... btw, I've got a 2003 Jetta TDI Wagon (40+mpg) and/or a 1987 300D for sale... sadly, have to sell one... can't keep both... leaning toward keeping the 300D as it's nearly mint... the jetta wagon is a blast to drive but has been used to kill a deer and destroy an unlucky vehicle that chose to side swipe it before I got it... it still has a wrinkled rear quarter but otherwise in outstanding mechanical condition with an 11mm pump providing 20% more power... sure I went from 52mpg down to 48mpg... but it'll roast the front tires now... :) drove it to Chicago in May and averaged 45mpg at freeway speeds. It has a 5 speed manual trans which is a problem for me at times because of a leg injury from the army... that and my wife can't drive a stick... (bought her a nice white '02 Jetta TDI with an automatic, great little cars) soon I will have a nice '83 J10 long bed with factory canopy in white with a 360/727/np208/2.72s for sale as superdawg is making progress... my '83 J10 stepside that has an SD33T/rv-727/np208/3.54s in it... the cab is in the main spray booth and being sanded... the engine is in the frame... axles need to be swapped, driveshafts made and reassembled... sure, it's been apart since April 2001, but I know it'll be done soon... really... :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -o|||||o- fahrvergnugen y'all Snohomish, Washington - where Jeeps and VWs don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://JohnMeister.com HTTP://WAGONEERS.COM http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of fsj-digest V1 #3809 **************************
