My heather blower motor is making the dreaded growling sound that often signals the demise of said blower motor. I remember there being an upgrade/mod for CJ's that used a mid-70's Chevy Blazer heater motor. I did it to my CJ and the difference was amazing. I wonder if this would work on our FSJ's. Has anyone tried it? Would it be worth it? The added air flow through the CJ's heater system really made a difference. I may give it a whirl and see if it works if nobody else has yet. - -- Ken Gaines Sr. GIS Analyst/Petroleum Landman Red River Oil & Gas, LLC (318) 227-4870 Office (318) 422-5731 Mobile arklatexgeo-at-gmail.com http://www.rrog.net ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Nov 2011 22:29:43 -0500 From: Dan Black Subject: fsj: FSJ on youtube On Jeep's official youtube channel: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6geicUY5M6w Heh, "I think it's pretty cool that he likes the old, kinda '90s style car." Good point on cleaning the leaves and do a little clean up of the heater box as well, when I replaced the core, the bottom was packed w 2" of debris..... Then you can put some screen material under the fresh air intake to prevent dirt from packing the nooks and crannies of the air intake. If you have very cold weather, covering part of the grille to keep the radiator warmer, will help. We need to find the vinyl that the truck drivers have. The only little annoyance I can see is that the mounting flange is a bit smaller in diameter than the OEM flange from the GW motor. I have figured out how to fix this, though. The OEM GW motor flange looks like it will come off of the motor without a fight so I can take that flange, fit it up to the flange on the new Blazer motor, and fasten it up with some sheet metal screws or even a couple of quick passes with the MIG. Thanks for the advice about cleaning the junk out of the wiper channel. I noticed a bunch of junk getting blown out of my vents the other day when I cranked the heater up for the first time since I have had the GW. I guess that the silver lining to this cloud is that if it is, swapping it out isn't anywhere nearly as bad as it is in a CJ. The GW core is easy to access where the CJ core is NOT. You have to wrestle that bloody box out from under the dash, change the core, THEN wrestle the box BACK in place under the dash. On another note, I used a GW heater core and box as a back seat heater in my CJ. The idea came from an old FJ-40 'Cruiser I had many years ago that had a rear seat heater. I simply attached the blower and box to the floorboards then ran 2 more heater hose lines off of a tee and under the passenger seat to the rear seat floor. I hooked a switch up to the motor and screwed it to the dash. I had the warmest CJ around for a while. I have a 3rd row seat for the GW and an auxiliary/rear heater would be a grand idea. the added engine cooling is a nice side benefit too. I guess I could make this mod work in the GW too.
