Not sure about the plastic cover, but I do find that cats work better than cat poop on getting rid of rodents. :)

Happy New Year Y'all.

After working too many hours last year I am finally back into the floor on the
Wag. It is in the 40s and 50s outside so it is decent weather for working
outside.

Anyway before I got sidetracked on trying to make a living I was working on
patching my Wag's floor. Yesterday I pulled the drivers seat (am still working
on the passenger seat---the electric has been broken since the mid 90's and it
is hard to get under. I have vacuumed up a bunch of rust and rodent poop (I am
going to throw a bag of cat poop in the Wag to evict any remaining rodents).

The challenge is pulling the seat belt retractors. There is a cover over the
retractor at the B-post and I don't know how to get the cover off. The factory
shop manual says nothing about it and the plastic is pretty crispy and I would
prefer not to destroy it. Does anybody have any insight on removing the
plastic cover for the retractor?

Pictures to come soon.

I live in coyote central so my cats are indoor cats. However they catch mice
and lizards in the house. Once the floor is in the rodent issue will go away.
Another question for you guys in Texas, Colorado, and Arizona is are you still
seeing any full size jeeps in your salvage yards? They are getting few and far
between here and I may take a trip to get some parts.

I recall my 84 GW having a plug over the bolt that holds them in. After
removing the belt, and plunking the plastic into warm water, it becomes more
pliable and less prone to cracking. Maybe a heat gun or one of those hand held
steamers would do the same?

look what I found... :)

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/2756752525.html

this doesn't look too bad, other than the hideous interior color,
faded clear coat and a few minor obvious issues... steering column,
wrong tach... otherwise the engine looks and sounds good...
those black wheels just don't work for me on any vehicle, well,
on some, light colored vehicles they're ok, like my old cj-10a,
but this just ruins this rig...

price is quite good, until you consider that if this engine needs
parts, which it will, you'll spend a lot of money...

the engine is french, renault... o-rings, not gaskets... paris rhone
vacuum pump/electrics typically, sometimes bosch... timing belt every 40k

the 5 speed is feeble on these things as is the hydraulic clutch...

I think I'd do the TDI conversion into a newer Cherokee before I'd
get another one of these things... although that 26 mpg in town and
low end crawling torque in low range was nice... and 32mpg on the interstate
was also nice...

the engine / trans are just not worth transplanting though...

there, I think I've talked myself out of it... :)

I got the retractors out. A little kroil and some patience did the trick. So
my seats are out, my carpet is out and what is left of my floor is pretty
scary. I doubt that the belts would have held in a crash. It also looks like
the body has collapsed a little bit...maybe settled about a half an inch. I
figure that I will make some supports for the rocker panels and air down the
tires until the body is straight again. Then I will proceed to cut out the
rear floors first and then I will do the front floors. I will upload pictures
in the next day or three. It looks like I will have to go to town and pick up
some more metal as the patch panels won't go as far as the Jeep is rusted.
