re: J10 accessories:

FYI: Dig into the DeeZee webpage, and you can find the part numbers and
dimensions of the universal style mats:

http://www.deezee.com/products/446/Truck_Bed_Accessories/Bed_Mats/Utility_Mats.html

They are not to bad to cut to length, if you must do so.

Also, This modular style hitch has potential for modification to make it
work, vs. pre-welded, one piece designs.

A matt in the bed can accelerate rust because it'll wear the paint and hold moisture. Don't leave it in there. Get a spray in bedliner. The matt on the spray in bedliner should be fine. If you have a canopy and the bed is dry it'll be ok too.

Those plastic liners were rusting out beds up here, and things don't rust if left outside!

Similarly, front leather mask bra's are supposed to be removed and
cleaned and dried every time it rains to prevent problems with the
underlying paint.

I agree, spray-on liner is the best; if done professionally. The "DIY"
kits are notorious for being thin, or chipping/ peeling, etc. I also
agree, the plastic bed liners are evil, and cause more problems than
they are worth. However, here in CO with our arid climate, the rubber
bed mat on the floor isn't a problem with moisture like the plastic ones
are. The mats also do offer ease of rolling up and putting it away for
occasional use vs, plastic liners are bulky and awkward, and not really
meant for removal.

If you have a topper / canopy, the nicest product for back-of-the-truck
camping is bedrug. But, they are just as expensive as spray on liner.

Subject: fsj: Back in the (AMC) saddle again!

After the past couple years of illness, I'm finally driving and AMC on the
road again! My '81 Eagle wagon is drivable now (after paying over a year's
storage on it and my '87 MJ) with a 727/NP229 upgrade from the 998/NP129.
Next I plan to get my MJ functional and then the Honcho comes down for a
drivetrain swap. If no-one buys the 360/T18A/NP208 soon, (while they can still
hear it running for $500) then I'll sell the 290, AX15 NP231 I have and get a
Ranger Overdrive that goes between the bell housing and trans of the T18
(where the factory spacer is) and keep it.
I'd still like to swap the 360 for my 290 (less fuel, and let's face it. A
stepside won't be doing major truck duties)
In the meantime, I have the Eagle 998 Trans core (little brother to the
727 in Grand Wagoneers) up for $50 (converter went bad and puked the fluid) as
well as the NP129 for $75.
Once I move my 5th wheel one last time, my '81 C20 with 454/th400 will be
up for sale ($900 with the 5th wheel hitch or $700 without) along with my '03
E250 van $5000 (paid $4500 for the new Trans a year ago, but I need a bigger
van for rolling storage and going to swap meet)
And my Comanche short box 4x4 4.0L/AW4/NP242 lifted on 33/9.50/15s with a
canopy will be up for $3000.

OT: need some advice...

PROBLEM: The last week of August we need to be able to transport 6 to 8
people around Western Washington.
it will be three adult couples with luggage - average to large sized... and
the possibility
of another adult couple coming along... and another adult... max full load 9
people... typical 6.

BIGGER PROBLEM: a couple quick checks show a rental
minivan/suburban/expedition costing $700-$900 or more for the week.

SOLUTION (in my Diesel soaked mind): buy 3 seat Diesel Suburban - drive for
week - sell for same price or more <grin>,
 	found one: http://wagoneers.com/tmp/Suburban/ALL.html $4k - needs a speed
sensor
so the speedo/odo works, about $50. Stereo is wired wrong - tires about 50%
- - comes with extra rims,
have time to find good deal on correct tires on CL or live with "ok" tread -
ONE week of use expected.

OTHER SOLUTIONS: any vehicle capable of carrying 6 to 8 people with working
AC and automatic
that is a non-smoker - doesn't need any repairs, or if it does, is very
inexpensive and something I
can fix and make money on... ok with tranny swaps, etc... provided it all
pencils out...
Widened my search on Suburbans to include stinky, inefficient gas engines of
which I know little and
found several pages... hmmm.... and for less money... more hmmmm...

BUDGET RANGE: less than 4k - but must sell for same or more when done...

So, that's where y'all come in...

I'm well versed and knowledgeable in Mercedes Diesel, VW Diesel,
GM Diesel and Jeep vehicles... if I venture outside of that realm I'm likely
to end up with a white elephant,
a project vehicle or a Mr. Murphy special.

While I'd prefer Diesel it's not necessary... it is highly unlikely that this
vehicle will
displace any vehicles in my current fleet. Have thought about a 300TD - but
that back seat
might be a bit claustraphobic... of course these are in-laws... ;)

Any chance of finding an ALL WHEEL DRIVE minivan that gets 20mpg that could be
had for around 4k???

I briefly borrowed a friend's minivan for my Daughter's wedding, it was a nice
vehicle... what should I look for
in a minivan that I can sell when done?

This is a brave new world for me... might be fun... an all wheel drive
mini-van that gets in the 20's might be a keeper...

oh yeah, need an answer by this evening... ;) (just kidding... was talking
about going to look at the suburban
this weekend, it's about 6 hrs away... which means I should probably pass on
it... even though it's nice looking... ???)
